Digital skills for Algerian SMEs, from Algiers to the regions: a map of Algeria marking the workshops in Oran, Algiers, Sétif, Annaba and Biskra

Digital transformation, taught hands-on

GIZ's Business Digital Skills Programme, implemented on behalf of BMZ in partnership with MECSME, helps Algerian SMEs go digital. In September 2025, GIZ retained iQube to build three specialised trainings in the areas its needs study ranked first: data analysis, customer relationship management and business process modelling. We assembled the expert team, recruited the participants, ran every workshop and reported back to GIZ. In 2026 the programme went regional.

The challenge

Participants ranged from one-person firms to manufacturers with more than 250 staff. Each two-day workshop had to be practical enough to use the following week, and hold up to GIZ's formal evaluation.

The solution

Three in-person workshops of two days each in Algiers, led by specialists we brought in for each field: data analysis in October 2025 (19 participants), customer relationship management in November (21) and business process modelling in December (23). We mobilised the participants, ran the logistics, covered the first workshop in photo and video, and produced the programme's interim report with GIZ. GIZ issued a certificate of satisfactory completion in June 2026.

The 63 people in the room were SME directors, heads and technical managers: 52% women, 56% from micro-enterprises of one to nine employees, 78% with a Master's degree or a doctorate. Scores rose with every workshop, from 8.2 to 8.9 to 9.3 out of 10.

In 2026 the second phase took the modules to Sétif, Biskra, Oran and Annaba, and added diagnostic workshops that assess the digital maturity of high-potential SMEs. We recruited participants from targeted company lists, LinkedIn outreach and a technical sheet in GIZ's visual style, then ran logistics, signage and photo coverage on site. GIZ's Agrobusiness Digital Innovation Hub in Biskra also asked us for a hands-on digital marketing workshop for more than 20 agribusiness SMEs.
